And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. Mark 6:31

A next generation prophet takes up the mantle and the message of his predecessor.

A next generation ruler has learned nothing from the missteps of the previous generation.   

The Lord pours out his undeserved goodness on Ahab. 

Elijah calls out the wrong doings of Ahab and Jezebel, looking ahead to their violent demise.

Elijah highest high is followed by his lowest low, and the Lord meets him there. 

Elijah confronts Ahab’s lies with truth, and he insists the Israelites pick a side.  

The things Elijah said and did were true and marked him as belonging to God.
