Save me! Help me! I’m drowning here! I need help! Have you uttered those words aloud? Recently? I might not say it out loud, but I think it. Over small things. Too much stuff. Too heavy of a box. Too crowded of a parking lot. Too steep of a climb. Too early of an awakening. Too much unkindness in the world. Sometimes over too many choices. But never over too many actual enemies rising up against me.
Not so, King David. Today we’re reading Psalm 3 as we begin this week to daily consider a Psalm or Proverb in Worship & Wisdom, A Study of the Psalms and Proverbs, Part 1.
It’s a lofty goal – 50 Psalms and 10 Proverbs in 12 weeks. But it is not too heavy, too much, too hard. It’s just one page in the workbook for five days each week.

Here’s my approach:
- Grab your workbook and Bible or Bible app or smart phone (for QR code on each page).
- Pray that God will open the eyes of your understanding as you read.
- Read over the workbook page to get a glimpse of what to watch for as you read the Scripture. Be sure to check out the picture on each workbook page – it’s a hint!
- Read the Psalm (or Proverb) – today Psalm 3.
- Answer the workbook questions and identify which verse you think is represented in the picture.
- Ask the Lord to bring to mind this lesson over the next hours or days and thank Him for His faithful encouragement and instruction. Amen!
A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.
1 O Lord, how many are my foes!
Many are rising against me;
2 many are saying of my soul,
“There is no salvation for him in God.” Selah
3 But you, O Lord, are a shield about me,
my glory, and the lifter of my head.
4 I cried aloud to the Lord,
and he answered me from his holy hill. Selah
5 I lay down and slept;
I woke again, for the Lord sustained me.
6 I will not be afraid of many thousands of people
who have set themselves against me all around.
7 Arise, O Lord!
Save me, O my God!
For you strike all my enemies on the cheek;
you break the teeth of the wicked.
8 Salvation belongs to the Lord;
your blessing be on your people! Selah
I pray you find, as I have, that you will not drown in the Psalms but be comforted, encouraged, sustained, and know the rescue that comes with being assured of God’s powerful and faithful presence and tender care. Even if the enemies are many, our God is our guard, our glory, our Sustainer!
With the Lord’s help, dear woman, you’ve got this! Blessings, Colleen
