The more time you spend in God’s book, studying it, marinating in it, so you are soaking in it and it is soaking into you, 3 things will happen. These are the three things we are going for, the three things we are praying for as we begin this study. #1 We are praying for an increasing confidence in God. The more time you spend in the Bible, the more you will grow to trust the one who wrote it. Yes, the bible was written by human authors, but we believe, and the bible itself states it, that every word in here is God breathed.
So, when you are reading your Bible, you are hearing from God and growing in your knowledge of him. The more you know God, the more you will trust in him, delight in him, fear him, revere him, believe in him, become confident in him. Think about how trust is built up over time in your human relationships. And unlike humans, God is perfectly good and completely trustworthy. I think of the verse in Psalm 34 that says Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the [one] who takes refuge in him!
Over the course of this series pray for an increasing confidence in God. And pray for an increasing confidence in God’s book, itself. The more time you spend in the Bible, the more confidence you will have that this is God speaking to you. Theologians talk about how the Bible is self-attesting. This means that simply by reading the Bible, you become aware that in fact God is the author. Jesus once said, My sheep hear my voice.
