In his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus uses the picture of a log embedded in a person’s eye to urge his followers to put off their own sin and put on Jesus-like virtues. This silly exaggeration rules out a pride that sees oneself as better than others. Followers of Jesus put off . . pride, and put on . . . humility.
