Why should I listen to you? To them? Truth is, that thought goes through my head on the regular when I read or hear something that seems to not ring true. A little caution flag raised up to warn me there’s possible danger ahead. Everyone needs a little caution tape in their lives, don’t you think?
So once we’ve reviewed the situation and considered who is bringing the warning or the instruction or the guideline, we have the necessary info to move forward (or not), listening/watching for what is up ahead.
In Hebrews 1.3 we are told Who Jesus is (first part of the verse, our memorization from last week) and what He has done which shows His fulfilled purpose and His position:
He (Jesus) is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his (God’s) nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. Hebrews 1.3
- Jesus’ fulfilled purpose: He made purification for sins. My sins. Your sins. Something you and I, indeed every person, needs, and cannot do for ourselves, or for anyone else. Jesus can and He did! Trusting in Jesus as Lord and Savior is our only hope! And it was completed on the cross for our rescue and redemption!
- Jesus’ position: At the right hand of the Majesty on high, God His father. Because the work of salvation has been completed.
Why should I listen to Jesus? Because He is fully God, He is God’s Son, He is My Savior. Wow!
This week, let’s commit the second half of verse three to our memories with great praise for the completed work of Jesus on our behalf:
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets. But in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. Hebrews 1.1-3
With joy, caution tape not needed here, Colleen
