I love a good summary statement. I’m not thinking of the college entrance essay sort of summary statement that has many a potential Freshman quaking in their boots. This morning I’m thinking more of the one sentence that sums up what I’ve just read or heard or felt. Or what I desire.
I remember being asked years ago by a learned person what I desired most. I could not give her a direct answer, but I could give her a list of things I did not want … to be treated unfairly or with disregard … to be left behind … to be all alone. I was new to my faith when I answered that hard question and the truth is I would answer almost the same way now. But not with negatives. Not with the “I don’t want this …” but with a hope-filled statement like …
I want to know, and live under, the counsel of God and share with others the assurance that God will receive everyone who chooses to live close to Him into eternal glory!
God’s Word provides this simple but truly profound summary statement:
You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory. Psalm 73.24
I encouraged last week that you join me in memorizing one verse each week from Psalm 73 for the four weeks leading up to Easter. How did you do? Give it a go this week with verses 23 and 24. Allow yourself to be reminded of God’s sure hold on you, His guiding, and His future for you.
Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory. Psalm 73.23-24
These Scriptures remind me that God does not treat unfairly or with disregard; He does not leave me behind; I am not all alone. And neither, my friend, are you.
