As I walked out of a local grocery store this week I happened to be behind a dad and daughter. The dad had grocery bag in one hand and with the other he held tightly to his daughter’s hand. She was giggly and wiggly, but Dad’s hold was strong as he steered her past both parked and moving cars to the safety of their family vehicle. I smiled at the giggles and wiggles and my heart did a happy little sigh at my own moments of guiding a wiggly one through the parking lots.
That young daughter may not know yet how very good it is to have a guiding hand but one day she will, I’m sure. To know that I am securely held is a blessing from the Lord that I want to be reminded of regularly. I not only want the reminder, I very much need the reminder.
My morning devotional recently took me to Psalm 73 and there it was, what I’ve been thinking about since my parking lot peek into another family’s joyful security …
Nevertheless, I am continually with you (with God!); you hold my right hand. Psalm 73.23
Nevertheless what? Whatever is the thing that is threatening or unfair in my mind. Despite the situation or circumstance that has me feeling surrounded by concern or disappointment (in myself or others) – despite all this – I am held by the Lord.
This week I am adding Psalm 73.23 to my personal list of Bible verses I’ve memorized so that they come to mind when I need them most – when worry or fear creep in and try to settle in the crevices of my heart and mind. I’m beginning to commit Psalm 73 verses 23-26 to memory by Easter Sunday.
Will you commit to memorize one verse this week? Four verses in the four weeks leading up to Easter! Join me!
Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand. Psalm 73.23
Remember His Word, remember and come to rely upon His love and caring protection and His certain and absolute power and authority over all things with these eleven words.
With love, Colleen
