I just saw three daffodils in bloom in a neighbor’s front yard. In the first week of February! Delightful but concerning. What will happen when real February shows up? Will those lovely yellow blooms stand tall and resilient through the rain and wind and typical February temps? I hope so! But for now, they’re just spreading smiles and cheeriness. That’s their job (in my humble opinion) and they are exceedingly good at it. I am so grateful for the winter blooms. The expected ones and the unexpected ones.
Last Sunday, the night sky brought the most remarkable full moon. Bright and bold but still softened by wispy clouds.
I am determined to watch and make note of the unexpected delights the Lord serves up this month. Here’s another find of this day.
Amidst Psalms of pleas for God’s protection, or His forgiveness, or His vengeance upon enemies, there is a reminder that the Lord is always caring for us. In Psalm 65, David sings thanksgiving for how God has allowed the people to experience a bountiful harvest through His provision of what we might call natural resources. The meadows are shouting and singing for joy in thanksgiving for the Lord’s provision, how He has and will provide in every way necessary
Psalm 65.9-13
9 You visit the earth and water it;
you greatly enrich it;
the river of God is full of water;
you provide their grain,
for so you have prepared it.
10 You water its furrows abundantly,
settling its ridges,
softening it with showers,
and blessing its growth.
11 You crown the year with your bounty;
your wagon tracks overflow with abundance.
12 The pastures of the wilderness overflow,
the hills gird themselves with joy,
13 the meadows clothe themselves with flocks,
the valleys deck themselves with grain,
they shout and sing together for joy.
Watch for the expected and the unexpected and give all thanks to the Lord. Even for daffodils in February.
With joy, Colleen
