Can’t find what you’re looking for?

December 10

December 4, 2025

He was in the beginning with God.  John 1.2

What happened in the beginning?  I remember arguing with my big sister when I was in first grade about when the beginning of the year was.  In my 6-year-old wisdom, I was certain “the year” started in September when I started first grade.  I was, in my defense, not entirely wrong.  Afterall, September was the start of the school year.

Debb, oh wise sister, an entire 11.5 months older than me, assured me I was wrong and that the new year begins in January.  January?  Whatever happens in January?  Snow?  More snow? Days off school because of snow … days at home with so-smart big sister?  So much for that auspicious beginning.  Auspicious is, of course, the grown-up word.  As a first-grader my vocabulary would have probably allowed me to come up with … Ugh!

With a child-like faith, one might think that God’s good and true story of Jesus begins with the Christmas story.  And it does, of Jesus, God the Son who came from heaven to earth to fulfill God the Father’s plan for salvation, because we cannot save ourselves.

But Jesus, God the Son, was with God the Father at The Beginning … at the creation of the heavens and earth, of light for the day and for the night, of men and women, of animals and fish and birds.

You would be blessed to allow yourself a few minutes to read the Creation words in Genesis chapters 1 and 2.

Read Genesis 1 & 2

This week we are memorizing verse 2 of John chapter 1:

He was in the beginning with God.  John 1.2

And so we will have two verses together, from last week and this week:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.  John 1.1-2

If you tell me you can’t memorize, try this … say the verse three times, three times a day.  We have a printed card you can pick up on Sunday and tape to your mirror, or maybe in your laundry room, wherever you’ll spend a couple of minutes alone every day.

It’s worth the effort.  It’s worth the knowing.  It’s worth the believing!

Blessings, Colleen
