Today’s study is meant to introduce us to the Book of Hosea, and prepare us for a deep dive into the first 3 chapters of this 14 chapter book. The first 3 chapters are Hosea’s personal story, the story of his relationship to his unfaithful wife, Gomer. It’s about how her sin led to her slavery, and how Hosea then pursues her, buys her back, and restores their marriage.
Both Hosea’s personal story, and Israel’s national story, look ahead to God’s plan of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. God stands ready to forgive our sin, and restore us who have rejected him. God has provided the payment to ransom us from our slavery to sin through the work of Jesus Christ.
