This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of Him. 1 John 5:14-15
Prayer Specifics from Melissa – serving in Amman, Jordan
with her family, husband Greg & daughter Sophia (18 months old)
A couple of weeks ago, several women had opportunity to spend a Saturday morning with Melissa before she and her family returned to the mission field in Amman, Jordan. Allison Phayre offered the following summary of some of the situational adjustments Melissa and her family are experiencing as they live in Amman and the resulting prayer requests.
1) Provision for long-term car rental. Melissa is very isolated and a car would allow her and Sophia to attend playgroup functions and socialize more with other women. She does not have many conduits for meeting other women on her own to form friendships and engage in relationship building for ministry, so this will be an important facet of having a car available for her use. FYI: Their visa status does not allow them to purchase a car so long-term rental is best choice. Upon their return to Jordan this week, we understand they have acquired a rental car for long-term use. Prayer for provision for this ongoing expense is so appreciated!
2) Greg & Melissa do not yet have friends with whom they are comfortable enough to leave Sophia. Like many parents of active toddlers they would enjoy a break now and again. Pray for God to provide the right person(s) for babysitting once or twice a month so that Greg & Melissa can have a few dates and rejuvenation time.
3) In order to participate in children's activities, parents must pay fees, even for such simple things as play groups. Financially this could present a burden for Greg & Melissa. Pray for specific provision for participating in children’s activities as Sophia grows.
4) Greg & Melissa have learned that books are a precious resource indeed. There are no opportunities for purchasing English children's books for Sophia in Jordan, and access to English books in general is extremely limited or nonexistent. There are, in fact, no libraries at all in Jordan, not even for Arabic readers! Cost for receiving a shipped box is exorbitant and thus not an option. Some books are available in electronic format, perhaps this is an area where technology might provide a solution for the dearth of English language books available to them in Jordan. Pray for creative solutions and perhaps the availability in electronic format of the books they desire, both for Sophia and for their ministry efforts, and provision for such an electronic book device.
We have the privilege of holding Melissa and her family in prayer, seeking God’s protection over them and that they would serve God as He desires … Since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe. Hebrews 12:28 May God richly bless you as you commit to pray for this family. Blessings, Colleen
