Saved for a Purpose: The Lord saves you for a purpose - to serve Him!

The Question: After the birth and naming of John, the question everyone was asking was this: "What then is this child going to be?" Luke 1:66

The Answer: Zechariah's Song provides an answer to this question and more besides.

Zechariah's Song, Luke 1:68-79

* Praise the Lord, for the Savior has arrived. Luke 1:68-70

* This is what the Savior's arrival means. Luke 1:71-75

* John will announce this salvation. Luke 1:76-77

* Jesus will lead us into this salvation. Luke 1:78-79

To answer the question, "Who is John ?" Zechariah begins with the question, "Who is Jesus ?"
The question we need to answer is, "Who am I in relationship to Jesus?"

Two Images of Jesus:

Ø Jesus is the horn of salvation. Luke 1:69

* Do you ever feel powerless and weak? Let Jesus be your strength.

Ø Jesus is the rising sun. Luke 1:78

* Do you ever feel lost and in the dark? Let Jesus be your light.

Two Tasks for John:

Ø John goes before Jesus for the purpose of preparing the way for Him. Luke1:76

Ø John goes before Jesus for the purpose of preparing the people for a salvation that at its heart involves the forgiveness of sin. Luke 1:77

The Lord saves you to serve Him.

1) Ask yourself, "Am I a person who serves, or a person who insists on being served?"

2) Confess self-centered attitudes and repent of selfish patterns of behavior.

3) Ask the Lord to enable you to serve Him fearlessly.
