He Has Risen, Luke 24.1-12
4 Surprises:
1. The stone had been rolled away.
2. Jesus isn’t in Jesus’ tomb.
3. There are angels in the tomb.
4. Jesus is alive.
What does the Resurrection mean?
1. Jesus is who He claimed to be.
"I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live even though He dies." John 11:25
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6
2. Jesus has the power He claimed to have.
"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me." Matthew 28:18
"No one takes [my life] from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again." John 10:18
3. Jesus does what He promises to do.
Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again. Luke 24:6-7
Why does the Resurrection matter?
1. My past can be forgiven.
"For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." Colossians 1:13-14
"There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." Romans 8:1
2. My present problems can be managed.
"His incomparably great power [is] for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead." Ephesians 1:20
3. My future can be secure.
"Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." John 17:3
It’s either Plan A: 100% perfection,
or Plan B: trust Jesus Christ.
It’s salvation by grace through faith, not from yourself,
it is the gift of God.
