“The Privileges of Following Jesus”
Luke 10:17-24
Introduction/Background: Luke 10:1
Jesus, in these passages, speaks of three privileges or three joys of following Him. Let’s look at them:
I. You’re VICTORIOUS over Satan. (verses 17-19)
Jesus celebrates with them.
Verse18: “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.”
Verse 19: “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”
The Greek word “kai” can also mean “even”.
II. You’re VINDICATED from sin. (verse 20)
Team Jesus
But in comparison to our own salvation, it’s really nothing. Why? Let’s look at 3 things:
A. We ought to be rejoicing in Jesus’ victory, not our own.
B. Only, if I adequately realize the depths of my own sinfulness, will I be adequately impressed by the miracle of my own salvation.
C. We must remember the surpassing value of salvation,
not worthy to be compared to anything else.
Philippians 3:8-11
III. You’re able to truly have “VISION” of the Son (verses 21-24)
The true meaning of life
John 17:3
