- It established the basis for taxation.
- It qualified one for the priesthood.
- It was necessary to verify a claim to be king, to be the Messiah.
Jesus was not disqualified for Messiahship on the basis of His

Who cares about Jesus’ genealogy? Why it’s important:
- It establishes Jesus as a man.
- It gives a nod to the Virgin Birth.
- It establishes Jesus as the seed of David and Abraham, a Messiah for Israel.
- It establishes Jesus as the seed of Adam, a Messiah for all humanity.
- Jesus is put forth as a second Adam Jesus the perfect Son of God Romans 5:12-19; 1 Corinthians 15:22, 45
- Our salvation through Jesus was planned by God before He created the universe, and the birth of Jesus was the culmination of God’s sovereign direction of human history. Ephesians 1:4-6
- Our significance is ultimately found in our connection to Jesus. Through faith in Jesus we become the adopted children of God. Galatians 3: 26; John 1:12; 1 John 3:1-2
