Faith is Seeing Things the Way They Really Are!
Jesus Heals the Servant of a Centurion
The Remarkable Events in This Text: Luke 7:1-10
- That the centurion cares for his servant. Luke 7:2
- That the centurion asks for the help of Jews, and through them, for the help of Jesus. Luke 7:3
- That the Jewish elders would intercede for this man. Luke 7:4
- That the Jewish elders would commend this man as worthy.
Luke 7:4a
- That the centurion would confess his unworthiness. Luke 7:6-7
- That the centurion believed Jesus could heal his servant without
being physically present. Luke 7:7
- That the centurion would so clearly grasp the authority of Jesus. Luke 7:8
- That Jesus should be amazed. Luke 7:9
- That Jesus would affirm this centurion’s faith as superior in all Israel. Luke 7:9
- That Jesus could heal the servant just as the centurion believed. Luke 7:10
Reality Check #1: I deserve nothing.
The centurion saw himself clearly through eyes of humility.
Reality Check #2: The people around me have needs and
hurts just like I do.
The centurion saw his servant’s need clearly, through eyes of compassion.
Reality Check #3: Jesus has the authority, the power,
and the will to act on my behalf.
The centurion saw Jesus clearly, through eyes of faith.
Reality Check #4: I don’t have to see Jesus in the flesh to
believe He can work in my life.
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and
certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1
