The Cost of Discipleship

In Luke 9:23-27, Jesus describes 3 things: the cost of discipleship, avoiding the seduction of the world and joyfully meeting HIM on judgment day. Have you counted the cost?

Last week we learned that “Jesus has come to suffer, die and rise again”.

It is only when the disciples correctly identify His person that

Jesus begins to explain His work.

“He said to them all, if anyone wishes/desires to come after Me…”

You have a choice

1. The requirements/costs of all being a disciple. Verse 23.

          A) You must deny yourself.

               • Denial is not…

               • Denial is….

          B) You must crucify self by taking up the cross.

               • A cross is not having…

               • Taking up the cross is…

          C) You must continuously follow Jesus.

2. The Reasons to listen and obey Christ Verse 24-27

          A) God’s economy is different than ours. Saving life, you’ll lose it, and

gaining your life for Christ you’ll find it.

          B) The world will sabotage our lives. I John 2:15-17

          C) For, if you are embarrassed of me and my Word, He will be

              ashamed of you.

          D) There will be a day of accountability.

Applying the Word: Are you denying yourself, taking up your

cross and following him? Are you counting the cost?

Pray and ask God to help you follow HIM every day Psalm 28:7-8
