Cool Facts about the Gospel of Luke

Luke is the longest Gospel.

Luke is the only Gospel with a sequel.

Luke is the only Gospel written by a Gentile.

Almost half of the contents in this Gospel are exclusive to Luke.

There are miracles, parables, instructions, and events in the life of Jesus that you will find only in Luke.

 

The Structure and Contents in Luke

Part I -    Luke 1:1 – 2:52, Luke’s purpose for writing and an introduction of John and Jesus.

               Jesus is born into humble circumstances.

               Jesus is born amidst great expectations.

Part II -   Luke 3:1 – 4:13, Preparations for the public ministry of Jesus. This son of Adam succeeds where Adam failed, resisting the temptation of Satan in the wilderness.

Part III -  Luke 4:14 – 9:50, The Galilean Ministry: Jesus Revealed as God. The authority and power of Jesus is demonstrated in His teaching and by His Miracles.

Part IV - Luke 9:51 – 19:44, The Journey to Jerusalem: Jewish rejection and the Jesus Way.

               Jesus travels to Jerusalem to embrace His destiny and along the way, explains what it means to follow God; a new way that is not the way of the Jewish leadership.

Part V -  Luke 19:45 – 24:53, The Innocent One is killed and raised.

               Jesus is tried, but it’s mankind that is found guilty.

               Jesus dies, but in His death is the promise of life.

               Jesus is alive, and ascends into Heaven, leaving His followers with a plan and a promise.
