- Series: The Book of Luke
Faith is Believing what God Says is True,
and Doing what God Says to Do, Luke 8:4 - 9:17
Jesus talks about light and then about His true family in Luke 8:16-21.
About Light and Hearing the Word of God:
Verse16 - The purpose of a lamp is to illuminate.
- God’s Word is a light that is meant to shine.
Verse17 - Everything will eventually be brought to light.
- God will expose all that is currently hidden.
Verse18 - Those who listen well will gain more, while those who listen poorly will lose all.
- Respond the right way to God’s Word and you will be rewarded; fail to respond and you will be punished.
About Jesus’ Family and Hearing the Word of God:
Verse 19 - Jesus’ family is unable to reach Him.
Verse 20 - Jesus is told His family wants to see Him.
Verse 21 - Jesus defines His family as those persons who hear and do what He says.
- Knowing God’s Word and submitting to God’s Word are not the same thing.
- Knowing facts about God and knowing God are not the same thing.
Whenever you hear the Word of God there is an immediate decision to make: to respond or not to respond.
The consequences of that decision will play out in real-time.
1. You will grow in strength or you will increase in weakness.
2. You will show whether you belong to God’s family or not.
Will the sins of believers be revealed on the Day of Judgment?
- There are verses that suggest we will give an account of ourselves before God.
- There are verses that suggest God will never call our sins to remembrance.
Our sins can be hidden in Christ or they will be exposed by Him.
