Jesus Is the Savior of the Unclean Sinner.

“I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance”   Luke 5:32

The Call of Levi teaches us that everyone experiences God’s grace the same way - they realize they need it and they repent and they follow Jesus – they don’t earn it through their own merit.

Luke 5:27-32

Luke 5:27-28 The Call of Levi:

Jesus chooses to make a despised tax collector into a collector of souls.

Luke 5:29 The Party:

Levi uses his home and his resources to bring the message of Jesus to his friends.

Luke 5:30 The Party Poopers:

The Pharisees and teachers of the law criticize Jesus through His disciples for His willingness to associate with sinners.

Luke 5:31-32 The Last Word:

Jesus agrees that God’s grace is not available to all. Repentance is a prerequisite to righteousness.

What We Learn From Levi:

  • The soul that receives God’s grace doesn’t want to go to heaven alone.

What We Learn From Pharisees:

  • A critical attitude is a joy killer.
  • Criticism is putting someone else down in order to put myself up.
  • God hates a critical spirit.

What We Learn From Jesus:

  • Jesus sees what I can become, even when I am lost in my sin.
