Jesus at the Temple: The Testimonies of Simeon and Anna

The Text: Luke 2:21-40

 

Jesus is circumcised and named.  Verse 21

 

Jesus is taken to the temple.  Trip #1 Verses 22-38

 

   Simeon on Jesus: Verses 25-35

 

        The Nunc Dimittis (Now  Dismiss )

             Simeon can now die in peace because he has met

 Jesus.  He has seen God’s salvation, the consolation

 of Israel.

        An Aside to Mary

             Jesus will reveal men’s hearts, whether they be for 

             God or against Him.

 

   Anna on Jesus: Verses 36-38

             Jesus is the redemption of Jerusalem.

 

Jesus grows up.  Verses 39-40

 

Things To See About The Savior:

 

Ø Even the righteous need a Savior.  Good people simply

    can’t be good enough to merit God’s blessings.

Ø In this passage, the temple of God comes to the temple of God.  In Jesus the fullness of deity dwells.

Ø In this passage, the Lord is presented to the Lord.

Ø God arranges divine appointments between Jesus and

   earnest seekers of salvation.

Ø Jesus plus nothing else is salvation.

Ø Jesus is the Savior for all persons who receive Him.

Ø Jesus forces upon us a choice which reveals our hearts.

Ø Jesus is the only consolation for those facing death.  After we receive Jesus, we are ready for death.

Ø Jesus is the Redeemer of God’s people.

 

 

Things To Do About The Savior:

 

Ø Receive Jesus ourselves.

Ø Dedicate our kids to Jesus. Bring them to the gathering of believers.

Ø We have something real, the only real thing to offer those who are facing death – Jesus.  

Ø Tell others about the Savior.
